If you describe a texture inconsistency on the living room wall or a patch from an old repair that’s never read quite right, that gets noted and addressed in the plan.

During the walkthrough, we’re assessing surface condition (how much prep will the walls need?), ceiling height (does anything require scaffolding?), and room complexity (are there built-ins, detailed millwork, or unusual angles that add time?). We’ll also talk about paint options. Day One: Prep and Protection

On the first day of work, the visible painting doesn’t start. Prep does.

Everything in the space gets protected. Furniture is moved or covered with clean drop cloths. Floors get layered protection (we’re not the crew that puts one thin cloth down and calls it done). Switch plates, outlet covers, and light fixtures come off entirely rather than getting taped around, which gives us clean edges and protects hardware that’s often more expensive to replace than it looks.

Then the surface work begins. Any cracks, nail pops, or drywall damage get patched and sanded smooth. Gaps at baseboards and trim get caulked. In Austin homes, that prep step is particularly important. Temperature swings through the year (cold winters, brutal summers) cause walls and trim to move slightly over time, opening gaps that become obvious once fresh paint highlights them. We close those gaps before any finish coat goes on.

What Happens Between Days

For multi-day projects, you’ll hear from us each day. Daily updates are part of how we run projects, not an exception. You’ll know which rooms were completed, what’s happening next, and whether anything came up during prep that affects the timeline. If a surface situation is more involved than the walkthrough suggested, we tell you before we address it rather than after it’s on the invoice.

The house doesn’t get left in disarray overnight. Drop cloths stay in place, equipment is secured, and rooms in progress aren’t left half-done in ways that create hazards or mess.

The Final Walkthrough

When painting is complete, we do a walkthrough with you before calling the project done. Not a quick ‘looks good?’ at the door: an actual room-by-room review where you can flag anything that doesn’t meet your expectations before the crew leaves.

Cut lines, coverage uniformity, patch areas, trim detail: we check all of it with you. Anything that needs attention gets addressed on the spot.

Then everything gets put back. Furniture goes back where it was. Outlet covers and switch plates go back on. The space should look like a crew was never there, except for the paint.

The 9-Year Warranty and Free Touch-Ups

After project completion, Brush & Color covers the interior workmanship for nine years. That’s not the 2-3 year coverage most Austin painters offer. It’s a direct reflection of what proper prep and quality products deliver over time.
